Album Context:
Continuing right from where I left off with Song Studies V, here’s another collection of voice memo recordings. The voice memo remains the most seamless and effective way to record a song. What this collection reinforces is that it’s really all about the songs. If a song is good, it’s good, no matter the production or pomp surrounding it. These tracks continue the feelings from Song Studies V, but in some ways are more polished and possess more of a pop sensibility. My new songwriting approach has been to ditch choruses (which I never really had anyways) and focus on building into a single phrase that I repeat a lot at the end. This has been the LCD Soundsystem model and it’s always felt effectie, so let’s see how it works out within this acoustic style.
